Southern Athletic Club Group Fitness FAQ

Why Group Fitness?

Common misconception...Group fitness classes are just for "girls".

Reality...20% to 40% of group fitness participants are men! And some of them can out-do their female classmates!

Do I have to be able to dance to take a class?

Most group fitness classes are athletic-based. Only a few classes have "dancer" moves in the routines.

Common misconception...Overweight individuals don't "fit in".

Everyone can participate to some level in group fitness, regardless of shape or size. If everyone looked like "Barbie" and "Ken", we would probably not need to have group fitness classes. Love your body through all of it's phases of improvement!

Which classes are for me?

When choosing a class to attend, you can check the class descriptions on the back of the Group Fitness Schedules to determine if the class level is for Beginners (Level 1), Intermediate (Level 2), or Advanced (Level 3). Any class can be done low-impact (non-jumping) if you like. Some classes have more advanced choreography and some are simpler to follow. If you have any knee, ankle, hip, or back problems, or if you are pregnant, your best choice to start would probably be the Aqua Fit or Body Vive classes. If your cardiovascular system is not fit, you might try a Yoga class. If you are somewhat fit already and you like a challenge, try our Hard Abs class or Body Pump.
